Title: MBA entrepreneurs: A call for research
Author: DeMartino, Richard; Barbato, Robert
Abstract: What percentage of MBA graduates become entrepreneurs? What are their demographic profiles? At what point in their careers and in what industry do MBA graduates become entrepreneurs? How do the career preferences of MBA entrepreneurs differ from MBA peers? While these, and related, questions affect entrepreneurship research and educational curriculum, very little is known about MBA entrepreneurship. Not only is the current body of academic literature incomplete, but very few individual MBA institutions track the demographic profiles of their graduates. This paper provides a literature review, as well as several propositions and areas of exploration. The paper concludes with suggestions on a future research agenda and a call for greater research collaboration.
