Title: ERP: is your organization ready?
Author: Cook, Jack; Agricola, Heather; Cook, Laura
Abstract: Some say information is power and the driving force behind Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is the increasing need for greater access to information. The ERP market has evolved into a multi-billion dollar industry, and based upon estimates by Advanced Manufacturing Research, will sour to $19 billion by the year 2001. The appeal of ERP is that it is not a mass-produced machinery concept, slated to fix every company's technological efficiency problems, but rather a custom-tailored product designed to maximize your business, not the competition's. Though it is a long and complicated process, involving high costs and risks, ERP offers diverse groups the ability to analyze and cover potential business needs. This paper will lend some insight as to the development of ERP, its benefits and affect on one's business as well as keys to a successful ERP implementation. Current ERP vendors and their products, implementation costs, and the future of ERP in the business world are also examined.
