Title: Correlating heat transfer data in binary systems
Author: Kandlikar, Satish
Abstract: A correlating scheme is presented to predict the heat transfer coefficient during flow boiling of mixture refrigerants in circular tubes. It is developed by modifying the Kandlikar (1990a) correlation for pure components to include the effects due to (i) mass diffusion in the liquid phase during nucleate boiling, (ii) changes in the liquid film concentration, local saturation temperature, and liquid phase properties along the evaporator tube. The correlating scheme is quite general, and is based on a theoretical equation derived by Calus and Rice (1972). No additional empirical constants are introduced for binary systems. The results from the correlation are compared with over 1700 experimental data points reported by Jung et al. (1989) for refrigerant mixtures R-12/R-152a, R-500, and R-22/R114. The experimental and the predicted values agree within a mean deviation of *15 percent.
