Title: Stochastic signal processing for tissue characterization with ultrasound: A Simulation study

Abstract: Theoretical simulation is used to describe a technique for characterizing a random scattering medium. A frequency-modulated pulse is used as an interrogating pulse, and the resolution cell volume is varied over a wide range. Kurtosis is calculated from the simulated backscattered signal. A plot of kurtosis versus the resolution-cell-volume-dependent parameter Fs confirms theoretical predictions. Parameters extracted from such a plot may be useful in characterizing the random scattering medium.
