Title: Professionally managing personal chaos
Author: Cook, Laura; Cook, Jack
Abstract: "After a second of hesitation I add, 'It wouldn't be bad to learn how to manage my life, but I'm afraid that would be asking too much." 'Why too much?' says Jonah to my surprise. 'I think that every sensible person should want to learn how to manage his or her life," (The Goal, p. 263) In The Goal, the main character, Al, is forced to adopt commonsense approaches to save his manufacturing plant from closing, while at the same time dealing with a deteriorating family situation. Using the logic taught to him by his mentor, Jonah, Al saves both the plant and his family. This logic included locating bottlenecks, reducing waste, and defining objectives for obtaining the goal.
