Title: A Problem-based learning approach to business software skills
Author: Perotti, Victor; Sorce, Patricia; Isselhardt, Ben
Abstract: Today, computer software skills are a fundamental requirement for every businessperson. It is difficult to imagine how an individual could even survive in the current business atmosphere without the ability to use basic computer applications. Thus, the instruction of theses skills has become an important facet of all Business education. Unfortunately, the traditional lecture and repetition approach to these skills seldom work well. It becomes very obvious that learning computer software requires practice with the software, rather than lengthy discourse on the subject. This paper presents an overview of our transition to an alternative teaching methodology, problem-based learning, for the instruction of computer skills.
